Biennale Venezia 56. Esposizione internazionale d'Arte - All the World’s Futures
Codice Italia, Italian Pavillon, curated by Vincenzo Trione
Vanessa Beecroft goes back to the classical language of sculpture – from a conceptual perspective – and lead us toward territories inhabited by timeless statuary. She presents us with a scene that is visible only from a distance through a slit engraved in two marble walls. Beyond this threshold, we see fragments of a stone garden, full of archaeological fascination and echoes of the avant-garde of the 20th century. The Archive of Memory here is entrusted to a bronze tribute - placed at the centre of the installation – to Étant donnés by Marchel Duchamp, a reference model of here research that aims to balance personal memories, historical-artistic suggestions and conceptual tensions.
